Carefree

'They need to remember that we are children, we are young people. At the end of the day personality wise we're no different, we're normal people, just normal children, sometimes we just want to mess around and be kids and we get judged for it...just understanding that we are children' - A young carer (www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk)

Young carers can experience a range of negative effects as a result of their responsibilities. Personal, social, educational, and health needs are often overlooked as they provide care for loved ones. With this work, I visited young carers and photographed them away from their roles and caring duties. Shot in familiar surroundings and encouraged to present themselves freely in clothing of their choice, for the duration of the photographic interaction at least, they were free from their responsibilities.
